Spring Home Checklist: Top 7 Items

As the days get longer and the weekends feel warmer, you know that can only mean one thing: spring is here! As a homeowner, spring also means a whole new set of chores to tackle around the house. Here are the top 7 items all homeowners should have on their checklist this spring.

Spring Cleaning

Spring is a great time to go through your home and declutter. Start by clearing low-traffic areas to ensure that you complete the entire project. Instead of dumping all your old items at a landfill, see what can be resold/donated. If you are feeling entrepreneurial, spring is the perfect time for a good old-fashioned garage sale to earn a little pocket change.

Lawns

If your lawn has been taking a beating this winter, it is essential to give it a little TLC before Summer. Make sure you:

  • Rake away all the dead leaves and dead grass from winter. Do this when your lawn is dry to avoid killing the healthy grass underneath.
  • Aerate your lawn to fix compacted soil.
  • Kill any weeds that have grown over the winter. Do not wait for summer. Spring is the prime growing season for weeds and flowers alike.
  • Start mowing once your grass is suitable and dry enough.

Outdoor Furniture

If temperatures invite outdoor seating and dining, it will be time to pull your outdoor furniture from the garage and clean it. You can hose them down before they are needed to clean off any bugs, dirt, and debris.

Grills

Make sure your grill is ready for the warmer weather. Check your tank and hoses for any signs of leakage. You can use soapy water to check for air bubbles.Replace the tank or hose if air is escaping. You can also:

  • Tighten loose knobsClean the racks
  • Clean and gather your barbecue tools
  • Invest in a nifty new grill apron for a season of barbecue

Clean Gutters

Winter causes all kinds of damage and blockages to your gutters. Whether it is leaves or any other type of natural debris, it is crucial for the longevity of your home to check your gutters frequently.

Screen Doors and Windows

If you live somewhere with bugs or sweltering heat, you know the importance of fully functioning screen doors and windows. Summer is a busy time for window and screen door specialists, and you will want to address these items sooner rather than later.

Get Your Air Conditioner Checked Early

Summer will push your air conditioning unit to its limits. If it is not functioning properly, it can make living in your home very uncomfortable, and it may take a few days to repair.
